Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Victor Colon Jr. is the leader of "SWING CON SEIS" the oldest of six siblings, began playing guitar at the age of 10 and throughout the course of his teenage years made his mark in the local Trenton area music scene performing with various sextets such a
Paco y su Nuevo Tumbao. Becoming an accomplished musician, composer and producer of no less than five studio CD recordings over the past four decades; Colon has worked with acts of various sizes and styles, rearranging Salsa standards and interacting with Latin Salsa dance groups as well as multiple Latin musicians in the community as he honed his craft.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Colon has shared stages with some of the largest names in Latin music. Larry Harlow, Eddie Palmieri, Orquesta Colon, La India and Huey Dunbar (DLG) are just a few who dot his resume. Over the years, these experiences have enabled Colon to evolve into more of a leadership role where he could use his multi-instrumental ability to lead the various acts and musicians he interacts with in a positive manner and direction.
Utilizing these talents, Colon has taken "SWING CON SEIS" to levels unseen in the Central Jersey locale. "The band is not your typical Latin/Salsa act," says Colon. "It's a group based on old standards revitalized to a new sound and interpretation. We take Salsa Latin compositions and jazz standards, pep them up with a fresh beat and rhythm to enhance the adult listening and dancing experiences."
Today, Colon continues his love of music and the stage. His recent tours of the East Coast with The Pablo Perez Project Orchestra, and multiple appearances with the Yomo Toro Group and Karen Rodriguez Group have only added to a vast repertoire and allow for his and Swing Con Seis continued growth and development as they strive for excellence.
